Nach dem Handelshaus Amazon erteilt nun auch das absolute Schwergewicht unter den Informationsangeboten des World Wide Web den britischen Werbeträumen eine Absage: Die Wikimedia Foundation verlangt von den Phorm-Betreibern ein Opt-out für alle Domains unter ihrer Kontrolle.

Wie viele andere Web Sites inzwischen ein Opt-out per Mail verschickt haben, ist unbekannt, da die British Telecom keine Informationen darüber preisgeben möchte. Doch anhand von Kommentaren in Foren kann man vermuten, dass bereits eine ganze Reihe von Sites dem Werbeüberwachungssystem den Zugang verweigert.

Wobei es schon befremdlich ist, dass Phorm lediglich ein umständliches Opt-out via Mail anbieten kann. Es wird zwar auch erwähnt, dass ein Opt-out über eine Robots.txt Anweisung erfolgen kann. Doch da Phorm den eigenen Robots nicht spezifiziert, müssten wenn schon alle Robots ausgeschlossen werden. Also beispielsweise auch der Googlebot.

Da aber Phorm nur diesen Weg für ein Opt-out angibt, sind auch nicht-britische Sites auf dieses Vorgehen angewiesen. In Anlehnung an das Opt-out Schreiben der Wikimedia Foundation müssten sie also eine Mail nach folgendem Muster abschicken:

Subject: Phorm opt-out for intern.de an other domains

 

To whom it may concern --

We request that our web sites including intern.de and all related domains be excluded from scanning by the Phorm / BT Webwise system, as we consider the scanning and profiling of our visitors' behavior by a third party to be an infringement on their privacy.

Here is a list of our domains which should be excluded (please exclude
any and all subdomains as well):

intern.de
tvintern.de
fernsehsuchmaschine.de
retro-suche.de
...

 

Typischerweise sollte diesem Request ein Antwortschreiben folgen: 

 

Thank you for your submission to the Phorm website exclusion list. If there are no obvious grounds to doubt the legitimacy of the request the URL will be blocked as soon as possible, usually within 48 hours.

Requests must be made by the legitimate owner of the domain. If we have questions regarding your domain Phorm may take a number of steps, including attempting to contact the domain administrator by email for confirmation of this request. If the request remains questionable and is not confirmed within 10 days, the URL will be removed from the exclusion list and an email will be sent informing you of this decision.

Where applicable, please ensure that the Administrative Contact details for this domain are up to date. If you need to update them, please resubmit your request when the amended details are visible in the WhoIs database - (use a public whois service such as http://who.godaddy.com/whoischeck.aspx if you are unsure it has been updated)
